Srinagar, 4 June-2014, Peerzada Mansoor: Kashmiri Pandits today staged a protest demonstration in Summer Capital Srinagar against the discriminatory attitude of state and central government towards the community.
The protesters were demanding the minority status to the community and have threatened to go for fast unto-death if their demands were not met. However police and paramilitary forces resorted lathi charge to disperse protesters. Protesters said that the community has written an open letter to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi about the hardships that the community is facing. They also said that the state government is sleeping over the issues pertaining to their community. A six-point charter of demands was also issued during the protest, which says the state government should pass Kashmir shrines and temples Bill in the assembly and start a probe in the multi crore temple/shrines land encroachment in Kashmir. Protesters also appealed state government to negotiations with Pakistan administered Kashmir for facilitating visit to Shardha Peeth Temple. They said government should pay one time compensation for over-aged Hindu youth living outside valley. Reports also said the other demands including the establishment of Shardha Peet University in Kashmir and a special employment package for Hindus in Kashmir.
