Kandi (Baramulla), 3 June -2014, Peerzada Mansoor: Many villages of Kandi in this north Kashmir area here have been put in the forward category adding to the worries of the residents. The residents accused the authorities of being non serious regarding the matter.
The residents of Kalantara Payeen, Kalantara Bala, Kachwa Muqam and other adjoining areas of Sangrama Assembly Constituency said that they have been put in forward category. They said that many villages which are more developed and nearer to tehsil headquarters are enjoying backward status. “Our qualified youth are unemployed, we have to compete with the students of Srinagar in OM category, this is sheer injustice with us that we are in forward category,” said Reyaz Ahmad of Kalantara Payeen. “We have been put in the forward
category, we deserve backward status,” said Javed Ahamad. Majority of the people here are dependent on farming and live below poverty line (BPL). But the irony is that the village has been put in the forward category. “We have been totally neglected by the authorities, we are still living in the dark ages,” the residents said. “We were promised of backward status by the politicians at the time of election, but all proved to be hoax”, Manzoor Ahmad a resident said. “We lag behind in the field of education. We crave for the basic facilities, we are still living in dark ages,We fail to understand that why we have been put in the forward category”, the inhabitants said. They said that they brought it to the notice of the higher authorities a number of times but the authorities are not serious about the matter.
Meanwhile the residents of the Kandi area and the adjoining villages have sought CM’s intervention in the matter and have appealed the government to look into the matter. “We appeal Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to intervene into the matter and provide justice,” the residents said.
