Bhubaneswar, 1 June-2014: Centre approves proposal of Odisha for seeking World Bank aid in field of higher education. The Department of Economic Affairs (DEA) under Union Finance Ministry on Saturday approved the proposal of the State government for seeking technical assistance of the World Bank in the field of higher education.
Department for Higher Education officials gave a presentation of status, vision; roadmap of higher education in the State at a high level screening committee meeting held in New Delhi and also submitted a list of proposals for availing World Bank technical assistance for the purpose.
The screening committee of the DEA after going through the presentation and proposals of the State government gave its approval for World Bank funding in the higher education sector. World Bank will fund US dollar of 1.5 lakh for preparation of comprehensive study report. Based on the findings and observations to be made in the report, implementation of different action plans will be made, sources from the State Higher Education Department revealed.
With the assistance of World Bank a comprehensive study report on the status of higher education and proposals put up by the government for implementation will be prepared at the first place.
The three proposals submitted by the Higher Education Department are preparation of comprehensive study and prepare prospective plan for the State, annual, five years and 10 years, funding for expertise on reforms in higher education sector and organising an international workshop in Bhubaneswar on the challenges of higher education.
