Bhubaneswar, 1 June-2014: National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard) to start livelihood project in 19 Maoist-hit districts of Odisha. On this regard Nabard signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust (SDTT).
As per the MoU, the two, Nabard and SDTT, would jointly undertake integrated developmental programme in various sectors like agriculture, health, sanitation and safe drinking water in rural areas.
In order to provide enhance economic condition of farmers, partner organisations like NGOs would promote farmers’ producers organisations, producers’ cooperatives and SHGs and SHG federation. The Nabard will provide credit support for the purpose.
The collaboration would also promote Diversion Based Irrigation(DBI) projects, vegetable cultivation, wadi development, Scaling up of System of Rice Intensification (SRI)/ System of Crop Intensification, seed production, aggregation of crop produce and market linkages, establishing agriculture implements bank, watershed development with improved crop production techniques, improved agriculture and poly house/net house in 04 districts, Koraput, Rayagada, Kalahandi and Kandhmal districts with an approximate outlay of Rs37 crore over a period of three years.
