Bhubaneswar, 28 May-2014: Vedanta chief Anil Agarwal met Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik here today and held discussions over supply of bauxite to the Lanjigarh alumina project of the group, sources said.
Earlier in the day, Agarwal also held discussions with chief secretary JK Mohapatra over the matter, the sources added.
The 1 million tonne per annum (MTPA) Lanjigarh refinery had to be shut down for nearly seven months and has been running much below its installed capacity after it reopened in July last year due to acute shortage of bauxite.
With the Union government having denied permission for bauxite mining in the Niyamgiri hills after a Supreme Court ordered referendum saw all 12 gram sabhas in the hills unanimously rejected the proposal, Vedanta has been pleading with the Odisha government for an alternative site to source raw material to run the plant.
