New Delhi, 28 May-2014: After Rajnath Singh taking charge as the Union Home Minister, a flurry of meetings took place between the BJP and RSS to elect the new BJP chief.
Rajnath Singh today met Prime Minister Narendra Modi after a meeting with Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat.
As per reports, Singh discussed with Bhagwat and other leaders who would take over as the new BJP chief as he is now the country’s home minister.
The party policy doesn’t allow partymen to hold dual charge.
Sources also claim that Modi’s council of ministers and omissions in it was also one of the agendas of the Singh-Bhagwat meeting.
Modi’s cabinet has no representation from states like Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, whereas Rajasthan is represented by a sole minister. These states handed big wins to the BJP in the 2014 general elections.
BJP’s ideological mentor, RSS, had handpicked Singh to be BJP’s chief and now party general secretary J P Nadda is seen as the frontrunner for the post.
Party vice-presidents Smriti Irani and Jual Oram, general secretaries Ananth Kumar, Dharmendra Pradhan and Thawar Chand Gehlot have become Union ministers. So have BJP spokespersons Nirmala Sitharaman and Prakash Javadekar and Treasurer Piyush Goyal.
BJP will have to find replacements for all these leaders.
