Bhubaneswar, 28 May-2014: Odisha High Court today puts interim stay on publication and distribution of new edition of ‘Odia Barnabodha’.
Earlier Odia Chetana Parishad filed a PIL in the Odisha High Court seeking a stay on the distribution of the new ‘distorted’ edition of Odia Barnabodha (Odia primer) published by the state-run Odia Bhasha Pratisthan (OBP) to innocent school students till it is rectified.
The PIL (10054/14) seeking restraint on the distribution of the controversial new Odia primer to school students was filed in the High Court by Anant Debadarshi, convenor, Odia Chetana Parishad.
Even family members of Bhaktakabi Madhusudan Rao, writer of Barnabodha, on Monday strongly opposed the most popular Odia primer’s new edition published recently by state-run Odia Bhasa Pratisthan (OBP).
Wife of Rao’s grandson Puspalata Rao and his great grand-daughter Sushmita Rath demanded the government to immediately stop distribution of the new book as it provided wrong information. OBP has printed 1.05 lakh copies of Barnabodha for free distribution of two per primary school.
Literary organisations like Utkal Sahitya Samaj and Bharatiya Sahitya Parishad also opposed the new edition.
