Srinagar, 26 May-2014, Peerzada Mansoor: Scores of protesters were injured after police used water cannons and lathi charge to disperse Public Health Engineering Department employees demanding regularization of their services in Srinagar Summer Capital of Jammu and Kashmir.
Dozens of protesters were taken into preventive custody. According to reports, hundreds of protesters took to street outside Public Health Engineering Department office in Srinagar, demanding regularization of their services.
Protesters were raising anti-government and anti-PHE department slogans.
“Successive government since 1994 have not heard our voices, as after so many years our service has not been regularized” said a group of PHE Employess. However, police swung into action and used water cannons and resorted to lathi charge, resulting in injuries to scores of protesters.
Alleging that police used brutal force against protesters, who were demonstrating peacefully, an official of the employee association said that their voice has been stifled. “We were protesting peacefully for our rights, but police used brutal force against us,” employees said.
“More than 80 employees were injured in the police action,” sources said.
