Baramulla, 25 May-2014, Peerzada Mansoor: The Shranz waterfall in North Kashmir near Baba Reshi area is craving for government attention since years. The famous waterfall has the potential of producing Hydroelectricity and can turn into a famous tourist destination if protected, locals said.
Surrounded with green meadows and a bowl shaped near Nagbal Baba Reshi, the water fall is at a distance of about 5 Kms from Baba Reshi Shrine and some 30 Km from the district head quarters, the waterfall has remained a spot of attraction for the tourists visiting Tangmarg and Gulmarg. The villages situated near Shranz waterfall include Saterseeran, Nagbal, Dandmoh, Nilsar, Chontipathri and Baldaji. The natural falling of water of waterfall doubles to the charm of the spot in scenic beauty. The spot remains priority for domestic visitors including school children everyday to enjoy in the green meadows. However due to lack of basic facilities in the area the visiting tourists face immense hardships. According to locals this unexplored tourist destination if maintained properly can improve the economy of the area. “This waterfall (Shranz) is one of the most beautiful spots in area, this is not less than Aharbal waterfall in Anantnag, said a local. Authorities should take steps to maintain this tourist spot, said a local visitor Bilal Aamad. The Shranz waterfall has the ability to generate hydroelectricity besides it can attract foreign tourists also if government can look for development of area.
“If the waterfall is utilized properly, it can produce electricity for the nearby areas, besides will help in boosting the economy of the area through different means,” locals said . People demand that the whole area around the Shranz waterfall should be developed and be put on the tourist map. If the area around the waterfall is developed and put on
the tourist map, it will provide employment opportunities for the unemployed youth of the area. Mean while locals urged the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Tourism Minister to once make their visit to area and take necessary steps for the development of area. They also sought tourism status for the spot.
