New Delhi, 22 May-2014, UNI: The Aam Aadmi Party will launch a door-to-door campaign to inform people about the circumstances that led to arrest of AAP chief and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
Party leaders said the AAP would no longer hold protests against Kejriwal’s arrest and instead hold a door-to-door programme to make the public aware of the circumstances that led to his arrest.
“We had a meeting with Arvind Kejriwal during which it was decided that the party won’t protest any more and would launch a door-to-door campaign. The party will tell people how an honest man like Kejriwal is behind the bars,” AAP leader Ashutosh said.
Ever since Kejriwal was taken into judicial custody by the Delhi Police yesterday in connection with the a criminal defamation complaint filed by senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Nitin Gadkari, AAP supporters have been protesting his arrest.
Mr Kejriwal was arrested and sent to Tihar Jail till May 23 by a Delhi court after he refused to furnish bail bond in a criminal defamation complaint filed against him by BJP leader Nitin Gadkari.
The AAP leader’s wife Sunita Kejriwal, along with senior party leader and his close friend Manish Sisodia also rushed to the court in a few minutes.
The AAP leaders have defended the decision of Kejriwal not to furnish a bail bond in a defamation case filed against him by Mr Gadkari.
Defending Kejriwal’s decision not to apply for a bail bond, Sunita asked why should he apply for bail when he is not a criminal.
She also slammed the media for calling it a ‘drama’.
Meanwhile, AAP leaders reacted sharply to BJP leader and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan calling Kejriwal’s arrest a ‘stunt’.
“Mr Kejriwal Janta Sab Jaanti hai (Public is aware of everything) Stunts do not work all th time,” the MP CM said in a tweet.
Reacting to the tweet, AAP leader Ashutosh said, “BJP also knows that Gadkari’s defamation case is also a stunt.” UNI AR SW 1610 NNNN
