New Delhi,16 may-2014(UNI):Counting of votes polled in the recently-concluded Lok Sabha elections will begin at 989 centres across the country at 0800 hrs tomorrow and the first “definite trends” will be available by 1100 hrs or 1200 hrs, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) V S Sampath said here today.
The counting of postal ballot will be taken up at 0800 hrs and that of the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) at 0830 hrs.
“The trends will start coming in only after one or two hours,” he told a news channel.
To a question on the voting in Mumbai, Mr Sampath said one of the reasons for an impressive turnout was preparation of electoral rolls.
He admitted, however, that there were some problems in metros because of various reasons including in accessibility to voters, people going out for work etc.
Expressing concern about reports of rigging in some areas, Mr Sampath said there were some malpractices.
But whenever the Election Commission received reports of any malpractices, it took corrective action.
He expressed satisfaction that the Elections had passed off peacefully.
“We as the Commission are satisfied that the elections passed off in a peaceful manner,” he added.
