Bhubaneswar, 3 May-2014, Abhijit Saha: BJD slams Rahul Gandhi and Narendra Modi for supporting Polavaram project in Andhra Pradesh. The BJD in Odisha has made it clear that they would continue to oppose the project.
R N Nanda who is the General Secretary of BJD and State School and Mass Education Minister has said to the media that the statements of both Modi and Rahul clearly shows that they’re not worried regarding the interest of Odisha and tribal people of Malkangiri.
Both Rahul Gandhi and Narendra Modi, while addressing separate election meetings in Seemandhra, had assured the people that they would back the Polavaram project.
Modi said that after the government formation at Delhi, the completion of Polavaram project would be his priority and Gandhi said that to ensure implementation of the project, his party would leave no stone unturned.
Nanda has observed that though Modi has backed the Polavaram project, BJP government in Chhattishgarh has filed a petition opposing the project. Nanda said that Odisha also has filed many petitions opposing the project at its present design. He also said that they are totally opposed to the Polavaram project because it can result in sinking of an outsized chunk of forest land and a number of tribal villages in the district of Malkangiri district.
