Imphal, 26th January, Munawar Sultana: Manipur’s capital saw four big bomb blast minutes before Republic Day celebrations on Sunday. They were no casualties reported.
The first explosion was at around 8.25 AM during the march past at Kangla, East Imphal near Deputy Commissioner’s office. Chief MinisterOkramIbobi Singh’s official residence is also close to the area.Prominent officials were present at the function including Governor V.K. Duggal.
The second blast was few metres away from the first blast near public playground at 9 AM. The third blast was at 10 AM in Chingmeirong and the fourth was reported at 11 AM in Chingamakha.
Police said the militant outfit behind the blast were not yet confirmed.
Militants in the northeast have boycotted national events and violated attacks during national celebrations for years.
As high alert was imposed for the R-Day, on Saturday Army soldiers found 2 Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs). The devices were planted at separate places of Manipur’s Bishnupur district. The soldiers safely defused them.
Militant outfits in Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya and Tripura gave a call for boycott and asked people for a general strike on January 26.
Earlier in the month, on Jan 15, a bomb blast occurred at the entrance of MLA N. Loken Singh.
