Muzaffarnagar: Charges have been framed against six accused by the Muzaffarnagar district court in connection…
Neeraj Mohan,Kurukshetra: The district police have slapped attempt to murder charges on four youths who
attacked BJP MP Raj Kumar Saini with ink here on Sunday and allegedly tried to manhandle him.
Saini is a strong opponent of Jat quota and is known for his repeated statements against the community.
Kurukshetra superintendent of police (SP) Simardeep Singh on Monday also formed a special investigation team (SIT) under deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Noopur Bishnoi to investigate into the case. He also transferred Sector–7 police post in-charge Sewa Singh for negligence in duty.
Talking to Hindustan Times, Simardeep Singh said, “The accused have been booked under various sections, including 307 (attempt to murder) of the IPC and an SIT has been formed to look into the matter.”
SIT head DSP Bishnoi said the police have slapped the attempt to murder charges on accused as there was evidence of physical assault on the MP.
She said all the four accused who have been arrested belong to the Hisar district and they run a farmer organisation, Azad Kisan Mission.
The accused were identified as Harikesh, Praveen Dhanda, Saurav Dhanda and Sandeep, residents to Bhudhna village of Hisar district. The fifth accused, Jitender, managed to flee immediately after the attack.
Sources said Hariskesh, Saurav, Praveen, and Jitender are doing graduation, whereas Sandeep has completed his LLB and doing practice at the Hisar district courts.
They had reportedly reached Kurukshetra on Saturday, a day before the function where Saini was attacked.
The accused had also made an attempt to attack the BJP MP at a function in Hisar last month, but could not succeed in view of the tight security arrangements at the venue, the sources said.
The accused reportedly told the police that they do not support any political party or leader, but were agitated over Saini statements “which are harming social harmony in the state.”ATTACK
