Ghaziabad: Shilp Gram fair opens at Ramlila ground in Rajnagar

Ashni Dhaor,Ghaziabad: The 17th Shilp Gram Fair, showcasing handicrafts and artwork from all over the

country, commenced on Monday. The fair, being organised at the Ramlila Ground in sector 10, Rajnagar will come to a close on Saturday.
The exhibition will be open from 1 pm to 10 pm.
More than 120 stalls have been set up by local artisans and small scale entrepreneurs from Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Gujarat, Karnataka, Bihar and other states. A majority of the participants at the event are women.
“Art work from the inmates of Dasna Jail in Ghaziabad and specially-abled children are also being exhibited here. Cultural activities like dance, music performances, plays and exciting competitions are also being held,” said Anita Aggarwal, one of the organisers.
Free health check-up camp will be held at the venue on all days, organisers said.
“On each day of the seven-day event, we will have specialists from various disciplines holding free health checkup camps for visitors. On Monday, we had a general physician at the health camp while on Tuesday, a dentist will be present. Similarly, on Wednesday, an ophthalmologist will hold the health camp,” said Deepika Gupta, a member of Lion’s Club, Ghaziabad, organisers of the event.
On Monday, visitors were treated to a ‘Kavi Sammelan’ organised at the fair, which saw the participation of renowned poets such as Dr Kunwar Bechain, Dr Rama Singh, Ashok Madhup, Chetan Anand and Tulika Seth.
“Folk dancers from Haryana also enthralled the audience with their rustic performances on the opening day. The chief guest at the show was city mayor Ashu Verma, who officially inaugurated the fair,” said Sunita Goyal, president of the club which organised the event.
The event is expected to get over 2,000 visitors per day, organisers said.
