Pakistan opens heavy fire on Indian posts in Naushera

Ravi Krishnan Khajuria,Jammu: Violating ceasefire agreement yet again, Pakistan army opened heavy fire on

Indian posts across the LoC along Rajouri district, leading to a five-hour gun battle between the two neighbours till the small hours of Tuesday.
There were no deaths or injuries on the Indian side, which responded in “equal measure” to unprovoked shooting by the Pakistan army in Naushera sector, Defence spokesman Lt Col Manish Mehta said.
“Pakistan opened fire in Lam Battalion area around 8.30 pm on Monday. The duel lasted till 1.30 am on Tuesday,” he told HT. “They initially used small, but subsequently switched over to 82-mm mortars.”
The latest attack comes a day after Pakistan shot dead an Indian soldier at a forward post in Balakote sector of Poonch district. Sepoy Sudesh Kumar of 6 Rajputana Rifles, who died in the sniper fire, hailed from Sambhal district of Uttar Pradesh and is survived by his parents, wife and an infant daughter.
On Sunday morning, too, the Pakistani army fired at Indian posts in the Nowshera sector, triggering a three-hour exchange of bullets.
Tension between the two neighbours rose a month ago after heavily-armed Pakistani ultras attacked an army base in Uri on the LoC, killing 19 Indian soldiers on September 18. Eleven days later, Indian army’s special forces conducted “surgical strikes” on terror launchpads across the PoK border.
Within hours after the exercise, Pakistani army held captive an Indian soldier who crossed the LoC via Mendhar sector in Poonch. Indian DGMO has taken up the matter with its Pakistani counterpart to get released the sepoy, Chandu Babulal Chavan.
