HT Correspondent, Bhopal: A bus carrying people to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s programme in Bhopal
crushed to death a middle-aged woman in chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s assembly constituency Budhni in Sehore district on Friday.
Police said the bus was given a temporary permit by the Hoshangabad transport office for the PM’s programme.
The accident occurred on the bridge over Narmada river around 11.30am, when a couple from Babai town of Hoshangabad district, identified as Kallu Khan (50) and Haseena Bi (45), were travelling on a motorcycle to Mandideep (Raisen).
When the couple was crossing the bridge, a bus carrying people to the rally from Hoshangabad hit the motorbike from behind.
Both Kallu and Haseena slumped on the bridge and before they could get up, the speeding bus crushed Haseena to death.
“Haseena died on the spot, while Kallu was discharged from a nearby hospital after primary treatment. The bus was seized and the driver identified as Ramzan arrested. He has been booked for reckless driving and causing death by negligence,” said Budhni police sub-inspector Sanjiv Srivastava.
Advocate taken into preventive custody
A 40-year-old advocate, Siddharth Gupta, was taken into preventive custody by TT Nagar police in Bhopal on Thursday evening.
“The police had received input that Gupta had plans to create trouble during the PM’s visit on Friday. He had allegedly planned a self-immolation episode of three youngsters during the passing of PM’s carcade towards Lal Parade Ground,” a TT Nagar police officer told HT.
Gupta was shifted to Ratibad police station from TT Nagar police station later.
The entire route connecting the state hanger to Lal Parade Ground, Habibganj Jain Temple and the Shaurya Smarak turned into a virtual fortress, dotted with countless policemen.
