Kushal Phatarpekar, Indore: To find travelling cricket fans from New Zealand is not a common sight, especially
in India. But a few have made their way to Indore to watch the third Test. Two among them have, in fact, chosen to spend a part of their honeymoon watching a bit of Test cricket in Indore.
David and Abby Fulton have been travelling to different parts of the world on a whirlwind honeymoon that began in the Netherlands where they are based and will end at Christchurch where they are from.
Along the way, the couple had planned different destinations such as Dubai, Thailand as well as Indore.
“Cricket is pretty special for me. As soon as the itinerary was out for the series, I planned to make it happen,” says David, who works fulltime as an accountant and played club cricket in the Netherlands.
The couple sat in the stands wearing Black Caps jerseys on Monday. They had lots of requests for selfies and pictures as fans mistook them to be family members of cricketers. The couple obliged with a smile all day.
Asked if watching Test cricket was an ideal way to spend a romantic holiday, David nodded with a straight-faced ‘yes’, even as his wife gave an approving smile.
Cricket runs in his blood. David is the brother of Peter Fulton, the former New Zealand batsman.
“I have played two first-class games for Canterbury. In fact, I have played with a few people who are on the field right now,” he says. “Tom Latham and Matt Henry have been my teammates before, which was another reason why we chose to come here,” says David, 33.
David and Abby, 29, got married last year and moved to the Netherlands. David thought he could juggle jobs and might play cricket.
