J&K: Encounter between security forces & terrorists underway at govt building in Pampore; jawan injured

NEW DELHI: An encounter broke out between security forces and terrorists at Jammu and Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute (JKEDI) building in Pampore on Monday.


According to initial reports, search operation is underway at JKEDI building after terrorists attacked a police party.

Smoke was seen coming out of a government building on the outskirts of Srinagar where an encounter had taken place in February this year which lasted for more than 48 hours.

An army official said that soon after the fire, a gunshot was heard from within the premises of JKEDI.

The area has been cordoned off. Fire tenders have been rushed to the spot, but they are not being allowed to enter the building due to security reasons, the official said.

Two to three militants are believed to have entered into the building of Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI) in the wee hours.

“One soldier has been injured in the exchange of fire with militants holed up inside the building at Pampore,” a defence spokesman said here.

He said further details were awaiting as the operation was in progress to flush out the militants.
