Agencies, Agra/New Delhi: Defence minister Manohar Parrikar heaped praise on the Indian Army on Thursday,
saying it carried out a “100% perfect surgical strike” on seven terror launch pads across the Line of Control (LoC).
“Our nation carries the heart and courage to carry this task out. There are many people who are not loyal to our country and criticised the Indian Army, but we don’t have to give them any proof,” Parrikar said at an event in Agra.Parrikar also said no one had doubted the bravery of Indian forces ever before. “Some ex-servicemen wrote to me and said that they are ready to fight on the border if need arises. I salute them,” he added.
The remarks came amid continued tension along the India-Pakistan border following an attack on an army camp at Uri in Kashmir that left 19 soldiers dead.
A surgical strike was conducted by the army on the night between September 28 and 29 on terror launch pads across the Line of Control in Pakistan-administered Kashmir that further escalated the tension.
A camp of 30 Rashtriya Rifles was attacked by militants on Thursday in Kashmir’s Kupwara district. In the gun battle, three terrorists were killed by the army.
Parrikar also referred to the maritime domain as a key enabler of prosperity that faces a wide spectrum of threats and reiterated India’s support for freedom of navigation, over-flights and unimpeded lawful commerce, based on the principle of international law as reflected notably in the United Nations Convention on Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
