Indirapuram police station gets ready to go paperless

Ashni Dhaor, Ghaziabad: Indirapuram police station has been selected by UP Police headquarters to become the

district’s first paperless police station. This means senior police officials across the state will be soon be able to monitor the functioning of policemen posted in the station, in real time.
An order from headquarters states one police station in each district in the state will be turned paperless and act as a model for other police stations to follow.
According to senior superintendent of police (SSP), Ghaziabad, the order began to be implemented on Sunday, with the uploading of the general diary data of the Indirapuram police station, to the crime and criminal tracking network system (CCTNS).
The general diary (GD) of a police station includes details regarding police officials in the station and their entries as to what transpired the whole day while they were on duty. It also includes details like whether a police official is going out of station for a case, or is conducting a checking drive.
“Indirapuram police station was selected by the senior officials because it is a very important police station in the district. It is the most densely populated area in the city, with an educated class of residents. The order to turn the station paperless came two months ago, but its implementation started on Sunday. However, a complete handover from paper work to online will to take another two months,” said KS Emmanuel, senior superintendent of police (SSP), Ghaziabad.
The details will be available online round-the-clock, on the CCTNS of the UP Police.
“Any senior police officer will be able to check online which police official has been deputed for which job on field. Right now, this work is offline. Later on, it will be synced online in real time round the clock and any official who makes an entry in the diary will immediately be live on the system.

It will not be available to the public though,” said Atul Kumar Yadav, circle officer, Indirapuram Police Station.
Emmanuel said all internal records and data of the police station were in the process of going online.
“The online system will not only be convenient but also environment friendly, as currently there are various registers that are maintained by the police which will be gradually removed as the online system comes into place. Once Indirapuram police station is fully paperless, other police stations will be ordered to follow suit,”Emmanuel added.
Lodging of cases has also gone online. Up until now, police personnel had to fill in the FIR by hand. Two months back, the police station put up a placard to inform residents about online FIRs and online verification systems, in order to encourage the same, Yadav said
“Already public dealings have almost gone completely online, which includes lodging FIRs and online verifications. One a copy is given to the complainant, they can get it printed from the website themselves, while another copy is sent to the court. Going paperless has saved our time and manpower and in turn, gives us more time to work on cases,” he added.
Indirapuram police station has a separate computer room with four computer operators who work round-the-clock to keep tabs on social media as well as uploaded FIRs.
The facility for registering online FIRs was launched at the Indirapuram police station in June this year. Since then, in the last four months, 554 e-FIRs have been registered here and a total of 582 FIRs have been registered offline.
“Indirapuram police station has always forged ahead in going high-tech. We have the highest number of e-FIRs registered at our police station among others in the city, probably because of high population of computer savvy residents here,” Yadav said.
