Dhananjay Jha, Noida: Residents of Kanchenjunga housing complex in sector 53 have expressed concern over
wrong side driving by commuters on Master Plan (MP)-2 Road to avoid the U-turn nearly 400 metres ahead.
The Noida authority is constructing 4.8 km-long elevated road from Vishwa Bharti Public School, Sector 28 to Sector 60 on MP-2 Road, to bypass various intersections on the route. The sectors and areas situated between the two ends of the elevated road are sector 24, 27, 28, 30, 31, 33, 34, 35, 52, 53, Kanchenjunga housing complex, Nithari and Gijhor. The housing society is located on MP-2 Road. The traffic police closed the right turn here which was in front of the locality and this caused traffic congestion during the day. The traffic police carved out a U-turn 400 metres ahead to allow seamless movement of vehicles there. Residents said ever since the cut was closed, commuters found a way out.
Instead of going 400 metres ahead, the commuters take a right from under the flyover under construction 500 metres before and drive on the wrong side to reach Sector 52, 61 and 53.
“Wrong side driving has emerged as big problem. We daily fight with many commuters but that creates ugly situation. We are not authorized to stop anyone for violating traffic rules but we are suffering due to the problem. There is a possibility of the residents getting hurt. The road in front of the market is full of traffic all the time,” said Swarnmani Jha, a resident Kanchenjunga.
The residents demanded that the traffic police should deploy dedicated constables for enforcement of traffic rules on the stretch.
“If it is not possible to depute traffic cops here, the police should close all cuts available for wrong side driving. We hope that would minimize the scope of wrong side driving.
