They may have expressed myriad emotions on screen, but on Sunday (October 2), Akshay Kumar and Alia Bhatt experienced a real-life emotional situation.
Yuva Sena chief Aaditya Thackeray, Alia and Akshay were part of the graduation ceremony of the students of the self-defense centre run by Akshay and Aaditya.
“During the event, one of the women, who was in her early 30s, came up on stage to collect her prize. She spoke about the domestic violence she faced for many years. This made Akshay and Alia emotional,” says an insider.

Apparently, the woman also spoke about how self-defense has helped her overcome the problem. “Since she has learnt martial arts, her husband is wary of raising his hand on her,” adds the source. Her speech had a “deep effect” on the actors. “Later, Alia told Akshay that she was moved by the woman’s speech. She also said the actor was doing a great job by training women and girls for free,” says the source.

The course, which was started in 2014, has trained around 9,000 women so far. “Alia met all of them, and spoke to them about their experiences, and the importance of self-defense,” adds the insider. Despite repeated attempts, Akshay and Alia were unavailable for comments.
