Srinagar, Sep 18 - Two soldiers were killed and six others injured when militants attacked…
NEW DELHI(PTI): A fierce gunfight ended after a three-hour long siege between security forces and a group of terrorists in North Kashmir’s Baramulla town.
The terrorists attempted to break into the 46 Rashtriya Rifles camp at around 10:40 in the night.
At least two terrorists were killed but the encounter wasn’t over. One BSF jawan was also martyred in the encounter and another was injured in the attack.
This is the first attack on an Army camp in Kashmir since the Uri attack which led to a surgical strike inside Pakistan-occupied Kashmir last week.
HERE’S WHAT HAPPENED
According to reports coming from Baramulla, more than four terrorists attacked the Army camp’s gate while another group attempted to scale the camp’s wall from another spot.
Initial reports suggest the terrorist tried to breach the security cordon and enter the camp but failed as they were engaged right outside the camp.
A Baramulla resident however suggested at least one terrorist might have managed to enter the camp, based on the sound of gunfight coming from inside the camp.
Since the Army and other forces have been on high alert since Uri, they took on the terrorists soon after one hurled grenades near the entry gate.
Soon after that, two or more terrorists tried to breach the wall at another spot believing the forces would rush to the gate where firing had begun.
Residents of nearby areas told our reporters that intermittent firing and sound of grenade explosions could still be heard past midnight.
No one could confirm the information trickling in from unofficial sources that two terrorists were shot dead in the late night encounter.
Reports suggest that two soldiers have also been injured and they have been removed to safe locations where doctors were attending to them.
