Milind R Lashkari, Indore: Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV) is leaving no stone unturned to make it to the
next year’s National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) list of top education intuitions in the country. The feat has eluded the university in the first NIRF ranking conducted for the current year.
The University Grants Commission (UGC) on Friday issued a notification requesting universities and colleges affiliated under various universities to upload data pertaining to five broad parameters before October 10 for next year’s ranking list.
Earlier to it, Union ministry of human resource development (MHRD) in April had issued a first-of-its-kind indigenous ranking framework for higher education institutions wherein it came out with a list of top 100 universities and institutes of engineering, management and pharmacy in the country on the basis of assessment of five broad parameters —- teaching and learning resources, research and professional practices, graduation outcome, outreach and inclusivity and perception.
All 122 Centre-funded institutions – including all central universities, IITs and IIMs – participated in the first round of ranking. DAVV failed to feature in the first NIFR list despite getting a top grading from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council this year.
“We have started preparations for this and have appointed Prof Pratyush Bansal, information and technology department faculty from Institute of Engineering and Technology, as a NIRF local nodal officer,” DAVV vice-chancellor Narendra Kumar Dhakkad told Hindustan Times.
Prof Bansal said though the UGC issued notification today, we already started the process much earlier. Unlike last year, this year DAVV is applying not only in the university category, but also in the multi-disciplinary category which includes — engineering, management, law, pharmacy and combined disciplines comprising arts, humanities, science and commerce. It will automatically increase university’s and its departments’ possibilities of featuring in the top intuitions or departments lists.
