BMC issued stop-work notice to Kapil’s under-construction office in July

Tanushree Venkatraman, Mumbai: In a complete twist to the Kapil Sharma saga, wherein he had earlier tweeted about BMC officers demanding

Rs5 lakh bribe for his office work, it has now come to the fore that the extension of his under-construction office in Andheri is illegal. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had issued a stop work notice to Sharma under section 354 of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation Act on July 16.
In the notice (a copy of which is with HT), Sharma was asked to stop work on his Ground +1 storeyed office in Andheri (West) within 24 hours of the receiving the notice. Moreover, a copy of the same was forwarded to the Versova police station.
Sources claimed there is a possibility that bribe was demanded from Sharma to regularise the work. “The extension work was illegal. It is quite possible that somebody from the civic office would have sought bribe to regularise it,”said a senior officer.
The BMC has wrote to Sharma, seeking names of the civic officer/s who demanded bribe. The letter also states that the any information provided by him would be kept confidential if he wants to. Despite several attempts, Sharma remained unavailable for comment.
On Friday morning, Sharma took to Twitter to vent his frustration on being asked to pay Rs 5 lakh to a BMC official to get his office done. He even tagged Prime Minister Narendra Modi asking “Yeh hai aapke acche din?” (Are these your (promised) good days?)
Taking cognisance of the tweets, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis responded he had asked civic chief Ajoy Mehta to take action against the guilty. “Kapilbhai pls provide all info. Have directed MC, BMC to take strictest action. We will not spare the culprit,”Fadnavis tweeted.
Later, Sharma’s tweets took a political turn with politicos lashing out at the Sena-led BMC on twitter.

While, yuva Sena scion Aaditya Thackeray requested Sharma to share the names of the officials, BJP MP Kirit Somaiya said the party will ensure that corruption is removed from the civic body. Congress spokesperson Priyanka Chaturvedi said she is glad that Sharma has exposed the rampant corruption in the BJP-Sena regime.
