Thane, 19 April-2014(UNI/PTI): Former president Dr APJ Abdul Kalam has said that “Institutions and industry can definitely contribute towards the enhancement in over all competitiveness index of the country.
Addressing the Industrialists from Thane on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Thane Manufacturers’ Association here yesterday.
In his address Dr Kalam said, “Nation’s development is powered by Economic growth; Economic growth is powered by competitiveness; the competitiveness is powered by knowledge power; the knowledge power is powered by Technology and innovation.” But India’s ranking is 64th in innovation while Singapore is on 3rd rank. For higher competitiveness nations have to harness scientific research and technologies derived from them.
“National innovative capacity has to be the country’s important potential for producing competitive products. Institutions and industry can definitely contribute towards the enhancement in over all competitiveness index of the country. This requires the combined effort of researchers, technologists, production specialists and business leaders,” Dr Kalam said.
Dr Kalam stated, the technology status and the quality of product can attract international collaboration and joint venture leads to world-class technology and new products, which will have higher level of market share. This generates wealth to the partners and further improves the product quality and with variants leads to larger production reducing the cost further.
A “Memoir of TMA” comprising history of Thane, introduction of member industries related to TMA for past 50 years was released at the hands of Dr APJ Abdul Kalam.
On this occasion the Chairman of Aplab Ltd Shri Prabhkar Deodhar was conferred on his contribution in Technology Industry by “The Technological Excellence Award” and the Chairman of Blue Star India Ltd was conferred on for his contribution in Manufacturing Industry by “The Manufacturing Excellence Award”.
