Uddhav dares BJP to probe Delhi floods

Mumbai: Sanjana Bhalerao,Taking the bittersweet political partnership ahead, Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray on Thursday taunted its ally

BJP over flooding in Delhi, asking it if an inquiry was in the pipeline by the BJP-ruled municipal corporations in the national capital.
Speaking at a function to rename the Middle Vaitarana dam after late Sena chief Bal Thackeray, Uddhav wondered if the BJP will follow the footsteps of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, which initiated an inquiry in the desilting scam last year.
“I appreciate the municipal commissioner for his management this monsoon. Everyone needs to understand that after heavy and unprecedented rainfall, areas will get flooded and there will be slight discomfort. An inquiry to punish the corrupt is needed, but there is no point in blaming the BMC for everything that goes wrong in the city,” Uddhav said.
The event was attended by chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, mayor Snehal Ambekar, and other BJP and Sena leaders.
The BJP had attacked the Sena over last year’s flooding and blamed it for corruption. Uddhav also requested Fadnavis to speed up the permission for electricity production at the dam.
Fadnavis assured the BMC that permission will soon be granted for the hydropower project, which has been pending since 2012.
Middle Vaitarana adds 455 million litres per day of water to the city.
