Germany to fund Power Project in Himachal


SHIMLA, February 13, Somitr Keshav: Germany will finance 19-MW Thana Plaun Hydroelectricity Project on river Beas in Mandi district under “Himalayan Development Programme”. German Development Financial Institution (KfW) has approved the project and agreed to finance 1700crore.

The funds were in addition to its existing loan of euro 150 million for electro-mechanical work of Shongtong Karcham Hydroelectric Project.

This German Company will also grant 13 Cr for technical study of Thana Plaun Project. Three member delegations from German Development Financial Institution comprising of Iva Maria, Dr. Thilo Stephan and Vinitesh Kumar gave this information during a meeting with Power minister Sujan Singh Pathania.

Sujan Singh said government would provide 20 percent equity for Thana Plaun Hydroelectric Project.

The construction will start by 2015 and will be completed in 4 years. After completion of this project it will generate 69 crore units per annum and earn 276 crore annually to the state exchequer.
