Not Akshay Kumar! ‘Baby’ sequel to trace Taapsee Pannu’s journey

Baby released last year and set new benchmarks in terms of slick action thrillers. While most of them don’t work at the box office, Baby worked and how! A sequel to the film is now being planned.

Confirms a source, “Yes, it’s true. Neeraj is planning a sequel to Baby and everything is being worked out. The script has been finalised.”

Contrary to everyone’s expectations, Baby 2 won’t be about Akshay’s character. “Baby 2 will revolve around Taapsee Pannu’s character. The story will show her backstory of how she eventually became a special agent and will mainly be about her secret mission this time. Taapsee will have a powerful action role.”

Why not Akshay again? Because of Akki himself. Adds our khabri, “Akshay is all for women’s safety and encourages women to start training in mixed martial arts for self defence. He runs a foundation that imparts such training to women here. He has been wanting to produce a female-oriented action flick for the longest time. So, it was his idea that Baby 2 should have a woman protagonist. He loved what Taapsee had done in that hotel action sequence in Baby and he asked Neeraj to go ahead with her. It was his idea.”

Instead, Akki and Neeraj have joined hands together for another film, Crack, that releases next year on Independence Day. Good friend Neeraj also loved the idea that Akshay bounced it to him and is going ahead with that. But fikar not, AK will be a part of the sequel, whenever it’s made. “Akshay and Neeraj are the closest of friends. He has promised to do a special appearance in Baby 2,” says the source
