Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday congratulated wrestler Sakshi Malik for getting a bronze medal…
Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, along with Delhi Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goel, on Tuesday felicitated the parents and the coach of Olympic bronze medallist Sakshi Malik.
The Delhi government had last week announced a cash reward of Rs. 1 crore for the 23-year-old wrestler. Her father, who works with the DTC, has also been promoted.
Grand welcome planned
“Sakshi Malik has made India proud. But there are many such girls who can achieve so much but they are not given opportunities. We need to make efforts in creating a sports-friendly environment,” said Bhavna Gaur, AAP MLA from Palam.
Chandni Chowk MLA Alka Lamba moved a motion of thanks and congratulated Ms. Malik’s parents and coach, for inspiring every Indian.
Last week, after Ms. Malik won the freestyle wrestling game in the Rio Olympics, Mr. Sisodia had gone to Rohtak to congratulate the family.
The government has also planned a grand welcome for the Olympian on Wednesday when she will arrive in the city.
