NAGPUR: The RSS has strongly condemned the attacks on Dalits in the country and asked the governments to take speedy action against those responsible. “Taking law in their hands to harass Dalits is not only illegal but also inhuman. The RSS also cautions against elements who are trying to disrupt communal harmony and trust,” the statement said.
“We appeal everyone to be alert of anti-social elements trying to disrupt harmony among people, urge the government to take stern action against them,” said the RSS.
PM Modi on two different occasions condemned the incidents and asked for action against the accused. “I would like to tell these people that if you have any problem, if you have attack, attack me. Stop attacking my Dalit brethren. If you have to shoot, shoot me, but not my Dalit brothers. This game should stop,” he said addressing BJP workers in Hyderabad.
His comments come at a time when the NDA government is facing flak over incidents of violence against Dalits and Muslims by cow vigilantes in various states including Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.
Modi said at times some incidents come to notice which give us “unbearable pain”. “It should be our responsibility to save and respect them (Dalits),” he said without referring to any particular incident.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s criticism of cow vigilantes whom he called ‘anti-social’ during his first-ever Townhall in New Delhi on Saturday evoked sharp political reactions from opposition parties with many questioning the time of his stand.
