Odisha, April 13, Abhijit Saha: 186 candidates were found to be with criminal background out of 747 candidates contesting in 2nd phase of Assembly polls in the state of Odisha on 17th April. The Odisha Election Watch (OEW) has informed about this today. They have also informed that the list consists of 141 crorepati candidates and 63 women candidates.
Out of 21 Lok Sabha seats 10 was held on 10th April in the 1st phase and the polling for the other 11 seats would be held on 17th April in the second phase. Out of 147 assembly seats 70 was held on 10th April in 1st phase and the polling for other 77 assembly seats would be held on 17th April in the second phase.
Of the 186 candidates with criminal background, 144 of them are having serious criminal records. Congress has recorded the highest number of such candidates with 39 numbers of candidates. Congress is followed by the BJP with 34 numbers of such candidates which is followed by BJD with 25 such candidate and the least with AAP with 9 such candidates with criminal background.
Balasore Lok Sabha seat recorded the highest number of 7 candidates with criminal backgrounds.
The OEW has revealed this information after scrutinizing the records on the basis of affidavits filed by the candidates with the Election Commission.
