With his government set to celebrate the maiden International Yoga Day tomorrow with much fanfare,…
NEW DELHI(PTI): The President said yoga provided mental and physical strength to people. “It will enable them to live a healthy life. It will create overall harmony between body and mind. It will enhance mental and physical well-being.”
In a brief address on the occasion of International Yoga Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged people to embrace yoga for better physical and mental health.
Mr. Modi led the second International Yoga Day celebrations as he pitched for treating diseases like diabetes through the spiritual discipline. Over 30,000 people performed yoga asanas during the event held at the Capitol Complex in Chandigarh amid tight security.
“Make yoga a part of your life,” he told thousands of yoga enthusiasts. “Just as the mobile phone is now a part of your life, make yoga too a part of your life.”
The Prime Minister said International Yoga Day had become a mass movement like no other in the world.
‘Yoga guarantees wellness’
Yoga is not only a way to get rid of a disease but it also guarantees wellness and for a holistic development, yoga is a great way, he said.
“…with the help of yoga, diabetes can be controlled. Can we start a public campaign to suggest measures in yoga to the common man suffering from diabetes? It will be an achievement if we can help in treating diabetes. From next year, we can take another disease. We should address any one disease every year. We should run a public campaign with an aim to address one disease,” he said.
Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu, New Delhi MP Meenakshi Lekhi and L-G Najeeb Jung were among those present at the event.
Mr. Naidu described yoga as a great “ancient powerful technique.”
