Cabinet nod for expanding ST list, opening six IITs

NEW DELHI,SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT:The Union Cabinet on Wednesday cleared the introduction of two Bills in Parliament to add some communities to the list of the Scheduled Tribes for Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Assam, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Tripura.

Malayali Gounder, Narikuravas and Kurivikkaran in Tamil Nadu; Irular in Puducherry; Boro, Boro Kachari, Bodo, Bodo Kachari and Karbi in Assam; Bhuinya, Bhuiyan, Bhuyan, Kisan, Saunra, Saonra and Dhangad in Chhattisgarh; Bhogta, Deshwari, Ganjhu, Dautalbandi (Dwalbandi), Patbandi, Raut, Maajhia, Khairi (Kheri) and Puran in Jharkhand and Darlong in Tripura will be included on the list.

Six IITs to come up
Six new Indian Institutes of Technology(IITs) will soon come up at Tirupati, Palakkad, Dharwad, Bhilai, Goa and Jammu. ISM Dhanbad will be converted into an IIT under the Institutes of Technology Act, 1961.
