CHANDIGARH(PTI): A total of Rs 53.93 crore has been paid by Haryana government as compensation to those whose properties were damaged during the pro-quota stir by Jats in February. This compensation amount include both interim and final payments, an official spokesman said on Saturday.
The state government has received a total of 2,077 claims for compensation which included 1,839 from urban areas and 238 from rural. A total of 1,789 properties were damaged, 1,500 in urban areas and 289 in rural, during the protest, he said.
A total of Rs 23.31 crore has been given as an interim compensation, Rs 27.76 crore was paid as final compensation to claimants in urban areas and Rs 2.86 crore to those affected in rural areas, he added. So far, the spokesperson said, private and government insurance companies had made payments of Rs 10.87 crore to those whose insured properties were damaged.
He said, 2040 FIRs related to death, damage to properties, theft, and blocking of roads and creating hindrance in government duty were registered during the agitation.
