Tennis star Sania Mirza was conferred the Padma Bhushan by President Pranab Mukherjee at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Tuesday.
Sania won two Grand Slams last year with Swiss great Martina Hingis, and enjoyed an unbeaten streak of 41 games. The exceptional performance meant she reached the top of the WTA doubles rankings.
Saina Nehwal (badminton) and Deepika Kumari (archery) are the other female athletes to be conferred awards this year. While Nehwal was conferred with Padma Bhushan, Deepika was awarded with Padma Shri.
