Sydney, March 26(IANS) - Australia captain Michael Clarke won the toss and opted to bat…
The writing was on the wall after Yuvraj Singh had twisted his ankle during India’s match against Australia in last match of Super 10 stage of World T20. Manish Pandey was immediately called in as his replacement as the left hander showed no signs of recovery. However, the Indian team persisted with Yuvraj, hoping that he would be fit for the finals if India qualifies. But the latest news coming out from the Indian dressing confirms the fact that Yuvraj will not be able to take further part in the tournament and will be advised rest at home
Pandey, who impressed with his performance in Australia now has a golden opportunity to make the playing XI, although he faces tough competition from Ajinkya Rahane.
Yuvraj twisted his ankle while hopping to fend off a delivery while batting against Australia. Despite treatment by the physio, Yuvraj continued to struggle for the rest of his innings and was out for 21. India won the match by six wickets after Virat Kohli smashed a 51-ball 82.
Manish Pandey made a match-winning century in the 5th and final ODI against Australia in January to deny them a 5-0 whitewash, and is the first Indian batsman to hit a century in the Indian Premier League.
India next take on West Indies at Mumbai on March 31 in the semifinal.
