Congress’ tweet calls Savarkar ‘traitor’; says he begged for his release

NEW DELHI(PTI): Congress on Wednesday utilised the death anniversary of Bhagat Singh to run down freedom fighter V D Savarkar by juxtaposing the famous revolutionary against the BJP-RSS ideologue.

“Bhagat Singh dared the British Raj to send the executioners. BJP-RSS ideologue Savarkar begged for his own release.”
The tweet gives an excerpt of the petitions below each picture that Savarkar and Bhagat Singh respectively wrote to the British colonial authorities from jail.

“Bhagat Singh waged war for Freedom from British Raj, V D Savarkar begged for mercy, to be a slave in British Raj,” the party said in a series of tweets.

In the just concluded first part of the Budget session of Parliament, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi had targeted Savarkar suggesting that the ruling party runs on his ideals, while the Congress path was shown by Mahatma Gandhi.
