Kanhaiya Kumar’s portrait painting vandalised

Hoodlums on Thursday night erased the eyes and a finger of Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union President Kanhaiya Kumar’s portrait painted by some artists of Shantiniketan two days back on the walls of his home in Begusarai.

Artists from Shantiniketan and Patna recently painted Kanhaiya Kumar's portrait in Masnadur in Bihar's Begusarai district.

Both the eyes and raised finger of the portrait of Kanhaiya Kumar in an activist mode have been erased by some unidentified persons last night.

Some artists from Shantiniketan and Patna recently had reached Masnadur in Bihar’s Begusarai district and had painted his portrait and made graffiti with slogans of azadi on the walls of his house.

“It has done by some hoodlums last night” social activist Pushp Raj who accompanied those artists told The Hindu.

JNUSU President’s bail plea was adjourned earlier and it will be heard on February 29. Mr. Kumar has been charged with sedition charges and sent to Tihar jail in Delhi.

His parents, father Jaishankar Singh and mother Meena Devi, an aanganwadi worker earning Rs 4000 only every month, are living in the village home along with younger son Prince Kumar and other relatives.

Bihar government had provided security at his home to protect the family members but they had refused to accept them saying villagers would protect them.

The policemen posted for the security of the family were said to be staying in nearby areas, some distance from the house.
