A dream run

Dark haired and statuesque, the Indian face of modelling, Urvashi Rautela is the queen of runway. Having represented the country at the Miss Universe (2015) and other beauty pageants like Miss Asian Supermodel, Urvashi, is arguably the youngest actor who has won the highest number of pageants.

Talking about her first step into stardom, Urvashi says that everything happened in the blink of an eye. Her career started when she won Miss Teen India (2009). “Nothing was planned. My friends and family encouraged me to try it out and I decided to give it a shot.”

In a world where everybody blindly follows a diet chart, Urvashi says, “I just had two bowls of ice cream. I do not believe in starving myself. I like to eat in proportion, eat healthy, home cooked food with lots of salad.”

But for workouts, Urvashi – adept at martial arts, boxing, kickboxing, yoga, cardio and functional training – has a fixed schedule. She gets up at 6 a.m. to do her workout. “Being disciplined and determined are my fitness mantra. Sports is something I cannot live without. The desire for fitness comes naturally to me. You should not have water in between your training. Always warm up before starting your exercise and if you are a beginner, gradually increase the intensity of your workout and pay attention to each body part,” says Urvashi, who played basketball at the national level.Physical strength needs to be maintained irrespective of the fact that one is size zero or not

“Till the time you are not weak and have enough energy to support yourself, you are good to go.”

Follow your heart
She has a word of advice for those who want to succeed in life but lack motivation. “Life is short.

You should always follow your dreams irrespective of what people tell you to do. Do what your heart feels is good for you.”

Giving example from her life, Urvashi, who went back into modelling after making her entry into Bollywood, says, “For all my friends, going back into modelling after becoming an actress was professional suicide. However, since modelling is my first love, it could never be a secondary option.”

She feels that for her to leave both film offers from Bollywood and a Hollywood film offer in order to participate in Miss India contest, shows the passion and dedication that she has for modelling.

Urvashi started her career in Bollywood with Singh Saab The Great with Sunny Deol. In between , she participated in the Miss Universe.

Representing India has always made her feel privileged and she aims to keep making the nation proud. “I am what I am because of beauty pageants, I am very grateful for all those experiences in my life.”

Urvashi, who starred in Honey Singh’s music video Love Dose, says that the rapper calls her Miss Universe. “It is an overwhelming feeling to be known and acknowledged by other artists for my work.”

Urvashi will be seen in two films this year, Great Grand Masti and Sanam Re – releasing this week.

On Sanam Re, she says, “It is a beautiful film. If one believes in a passionate romance, it is a must watch. Go out and watch the film with your Valentine,” she gushes.

She has a lot to say about her co-stars, “Along with working with Pulkit Samrat and Yami Gautam, I feel honoured to be working with Rishi Kapoor.”

As for Great Grand Masti, she says, “I am playing the girlfriend to all the three boys in the movie.

An adult comedy it is totally different from Sanam Re. My fans will get to see two different avatars of Urvashi.”
