All government services may soon be available on mobile phones

The Narendra Modi-led Centre is planning to make all government services available to the people on mobile phones. The move has been proposed to give a push to the Digital India initiative and ensure that people can avail nearly every service at the touch of a button. This will help eliminate the need to visit government offices, the government has said.

According to an Economic Times report, making government services available online was proposed by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG) which reports to the Prime Minister’s Office. The move was proposed in a Nasscom and KPMG report.

“In order to achieve the vision of Digital India and ensure the delivery of government services to citizens, the mobile platform needs to be leveraged to its full potential,” JS Deepak, new telecom secretary, Department of Electronics and Information Technology, has been quoted as saying in the report.

Prime Minister Modi had asked the Communications and IT Ministry to work on a project under Digital India to make government services available on mobile phones.
