Bihar CM Nitish Kumar keeps poll promises and offers 35% reservation to women

PATNA(PTI): Amidst allegations of arrival of so-called Jungle Raj-2, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Wednesday allowed a 35 percent reservation for women in government jobs in Bihar.

“Today the Bihar Government has taken a decision to provide 35 percent reservation to women in government jobs under the seven-point Nitish Nishchay agenda,” the Chief Minister said in a tweet.

The Chief Minister had, earlier, implemented 50 percent reservation for women in panchayat and local body polls in 2006.

During his poll campaigns, Kumar had promised 35 percent reservation to women in all government jobs had he been voted to power. The government’s scheme to promote education among girls by providing them free cycles has increased school enrolment in rural areas.
