Anantapur: A non-bailable warrant has been issued against India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni by the Anantapur Court for appearing on a controversial magazine cover posing as Lord Vishnu in 2013.
The 34-year-old is currently in Australia, preparing for a one-day international series, starting January 12.
The hearing of the case has been adjourned till February 25, 2016.
In September, Dhoni had moved the Supreme Court against Karnataka High Court in a case filed against him for allegedly “denigrating” a Hindu God by posing as Lord Vishnu on business magazine cover page.
However, the Supreme Court provided relief to Dhoni by staying the criminal proceedings against him.
The High Court had earlier observed: “A celebrity and a cricketer like Dhoni should know the consequences of hurting religious sentiments of people. He should have known the consequences of doing such ads.”
The complaint was filed by social activist Jayakumar Hiremath, had alleged that Dhoni was seen on the cover of a business magazine as Lord Vishnu, holding several products, including a shoe in his hands.
