Early in January this year, Assocham-Mahindra SSG published a study that predicted that Cyber Crime in India may in 2015, almost double the level of last year. Although here is no official data released yet that authenticates this statement, the cases of cyber crimes have definitely raised up the bar this year.
Here’s a list of the most bewildering cyber crimes that hit the masses this year:
Anirudh issued a statement claiming that he has no hand in the Beep song
Faking identity and posting defamatory content on social media is something we are familiar with. But composing a whole new song to spark a controversy is what was witnessed this year.
The overnight famous Tamil music director Anirudh Ravichander who composed the viral hit ‘Why This Kolaveri Di’ landed in a soup earlier this month with the release of the song titled Beep Song. It supposedly has derogatory language against women and objectifies them.
Although this was an unofficial release, the song was attributed to Anirudh and Tamil actor Silambarasan who allegedly sung it. And before the composer could take a stand on it, it got the All India Democratic Women’s Association on their feet who filed a police complaint calling it sexist. An online campaign broke out onChange.org against the Beep Song.
Soon after, Anirudh released a statement saying that he has nothing to do with the ‘Beep song’. He has no part in the composition or the lyrics of the song and this was a foul play by a third party. Looks like cyber criminals have drawn shifted their fascination from bank accounts to fame-bearing individuals!
