New Delhi(Web Team): The Aam Aadmi Party is addressing media targeting Finance Minister Arun Jaitley…
NEW DELHI: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Kirti Azad on Sunday said that he is a big fan of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his campaign against corruption while ‘exposing’ corruption inside DDCA.
Addressing a press conference here at the press club, the former cricketer said, “I’m a big fan of our Prime Minister and his campaign against corruption.” Azad, who held a press conference to expose biggest corruption in the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) also said that his fight was not against any individual but it was against corruption.
Later a video presentation was shown produced by Wikileaks4India (not related to Wikileaks founded by Julian Assange) . The video claimed that DDCA gave contract worth crores of rupees to fake companies. It alleged that DDCA hired laptop and printer for Rs 16,000 and Rs 3,000 respectively per day. The video said that addresses furnished by the companies remained untraceable.
Azad alleged that DDCA members inflated price of tenders, executive meetings were not held before passing bills.
The DDCA came under scrutiny after Azad had raised the issue of financial irregularities within the association. On a complaint filed by former cricketer Bishen Singh Bedi and other cricketers, the Delhi Government had ordered a probe into the issue. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had earlier hit out hard at Finance Minister Arun Jaitley over alleged corruption during his tenure as DDCA President.
Addressing the media, AAP leaders Kumar Vishwas, Ashutosh, Raghav Chadha and Sanjay Singh collectively stated, “The main objective of CBI raid at Delhi Secretariat and taking control of ACB was to prevent alleged graft in DDCA during Arun Jaitley’s tenure coming to light.”
They added that the scam included siphoning off money by creating fake companies between 1999 and 2013.
Facing allegations of corruption, under-fire former Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) President Arun Jaitley today got the backing of the two biggest stars to emerge from the state– Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir. Finance Minister Jaitley, who headed DDCA for 13 years till 2013, has been accused of corruption by the Delhi Government during his tenure. The state government has demanded that Jaitley must resign or be “removed” from the union cabinet to enable an independent probe.
However, Gambhir and Sehwag came out strongly in support of Jaitley.
“Grossly inappropriate 2 blame @arunjaitley ji 4 corruption in DDCA. He was d one who got Delhi a proper stadium widout taxpayer’s money. Appalling to note some ex-players blame @arunjaitley ji for all that’s wrong in DDCA. Whereas dey enjoyed plum posts in DDCA coz of him,” tweeted Gambhir.
Sehwag, on his part, lauded Jaitley for being there for players. The swashbuckling batsman, who switched loyalties to Haryana from Delhi and retired from international cricket earlier this year, steered clear of making any political claim but lauded Jaitley’s role in helping players.
