Amid thaw Geelani asks Pakistan to remain firm on Kashmir policy

A two member Hurriyat delegation of SAS Geelani led All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) met Pakistan High Commissioner Abdul Basit in New Delhi on Monday to discuss in detail the implications of the fresh thaw in relations between India and Pakistan during recent Pakistan visit of external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj.

During her two-day visit on the occasion of “Heart of Asia” Conference, Swaraj brokered new initiative for a comprehensive bilateral dialogue, including Kashmir issue with Pakistani leadership.

According to According to the Hurriyat spokesperson, Ayaz Akbar, the personal secretary to S A S Geelani, Peer Saifullah and chief organizer APHC (G) Altaf Ahmad Shah conveyed the message to Basit that “Pakistan should continue to maintain consistency and firmness over its Kashmir policy and play an active role in highlighting the human rights violations committed by Indian forces in Jammu & Kashmir on the international forums.”

Though Basit discussed the matter threadbare with APHC (G) delegation for one-and-a-half hours, given the previous episode of acrimony with India, he chose to remain tight-lipped so much so that he even committed a goof up by instructing press counsellor, Manzoor Ali Memon to “Keep Silent” on WhatsApp group meant to give information to journalists.
