Coal Miners Crushed to Death in South Garo Hills

Tura, February 5, R M Warjri:  In South Garo Hills, four coal laborers who were working in a coal mine, were crushed to death after their mine caved in. The incident took place in Gare Gittim village of Nangalbibra area on Tuesday morning.

The laborers were pulling out coal from a mine hole when the walls of the cave gave in bringing down tons of soil and mud onto them.

The matter was reported to the Nangalbibra Police Station late in the evening delaying the rescue operations

The police informed that the bodies of three miners have been pull-out, while the body of one miner is yet to be retrieved. Police added that the three bodies retrieved were residents from the neighboring state of Assam.

Police said that efforts are going on to retrieve the last body which is still buried inside. The deceased who is still buried inside the mine have been identified as the resident of Nangalbibra area.
