NEW DELHI: Justice TS Thakur will be the next Chief Justice of India.
Justice Thakur will have a tenure of one year and one month as the Chief Justice of India.
Chief Justice of India, HL Dattu, who will retire on December 2, has recommended the name of Justice Thakur, the senior most judge as his successor.
It is customary and a convention for the outgoing CJI to name his successor.
The Centre will now process the recommendation and then send it for approval of the President and then a notification will be issued.
Justice Thakur will have a tenure of one year and one month as the Chief Justice of India and will retire on January 3, 2017.
Justice Thakur, who has served as the Chief Justice of the High Court of Punjab and Haryana, was elevated as a Judge of the Supreme Court in 2009.
