Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has got approval from the Congress high command to add four more ministers to his cabinet to control rebellion within the party. However, all eyes are on him as to whether he will pick actress Ramya over veteran actor and politician HM Ambarish.
The chief minister is in a quagmire. On one side, members of his party are rebelling against him and on the other, he feels the opposition is trying to have him removed as CM.
Despite the fact that he tried to rejig his cabinet several times earlier, he had not received the go-ahead from the Congress high command. Having received approval now, Siddaramaiah is still in a fix. The Congress wants him to induct actress Ramya, the former MP from Mandya, reports Mail Today, but this means that he won’t be able to give Ambarish a suitable position. Ambarish has been a former Union Minister but his failing health had raised concerns within the party. When he had to be airlifted to Singapore last year for treatment, the government is said to have spent Rs 1.5 core on medical expenses. Thus, the Congress is now looking at appointing a younger person.
Actress Ramya has the backing of Congress veteran SM Krishna but she is not a member of either legislature houses in Karnataka at this point. She is also said to be favoured by Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi.
However, actress Ramya has refuted that she is joining the cabinet. To a question posed to her on Twitter on Wednesday, she replied,
